Dan, KB6NU, raises some significant questions related to the FCC’s desire to reasses RF exposure limits.  If federal regulators are concerned about radiation problems from amateur radio stations, what about the myriad of ‘unintended radiators” that surround us everyday?  Dan mentions the devices that monitor power consumption (electric meters) and other automatic monitoring systems using cell-phone like connections to data centers.  Many of these devices fall within the 901-928 MHz range…and they’re on continuously.  I’ve read some reports that these devices are creating quite a bit of interference with upper UHF communications.  Note Don’s reference to the FCC’s interest in keeping VHF emissions below 50 watts.  Can this be the start of a policy restricting power to all amateur radio spectra?  Will the day come when all amateur radio operators are required to use 100 watts or less for all communications?  Something tells me that we’re going to have to become qrp experts in the years ahead.  I surely hope I’m wrong.  Read this article and pay attention.  Something strange is afoot.
